Out of the Silent Planet

I shouldn't write this review.

C. S Lewis was a great writer.

Credit goes to the man in the ring, not the critic on the sideline.

I did promise you, fair reader, that I'd read books this year and blog about them. So to keep that promise, here goes the first of a three-part scathe of CS Lewis.

Out of the Silent Plant was a fun story to read. While it is science fiction, and we know how I feel about that, it kept moving and mostly kept my attention.

The explanations, often the plodding and worst parts of books like this, were actually delightful. Probably because they were brief: I actually wanted a bit more explanation, but leaving some things unexplained (or not explained from every angle) kept the story intriguing. Lewis deserves to be called a great writer. When the reader still has something left to question or guess or figure out, the fantasy is doing its job.

As I say on Goodreads, if only the trilogy had stopped here.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the first of a trilogy, and like most trilogies it could've stopped here.
